This Spring, award-winning British lighting studio Curiousa unveils the WAVE II Collection, a colourful extension of their acclaimed WAVE Collection introduced in 2022.
Founder and Designer, Esther Patterson, elevates the collection’s design by introducing textural and bespoke elements, seamlessly melding hand-formed and sandblasted glass with diffused tubular beams of light. Patterson skillfully crafts a balance with earthy materials, such as wood, glass, and silk, evoking a sense of tactility and natural artistry. The new sandblasted elements play a pivotal role in softening and diffusing light, resulting in a mesmerising frosted effect that complements the gentle hues of the mid-century colour palette.
The WAVE II Collection marks the introduction of reimagined designs, including the iconic horizontal Ripple Beams and vertical Crest pendant, complemented by the addition of two innovative new lights—Lozenge Squircle and Lozenge Wave. Among the reimagined designs is the Ripple Corona, with a handcrafted wooden disk enhancing the look, and available in a natural walnut finish or in apainted white option. Additionally, the Ripple Mezzo, a petite version, caters to smaller spaces without compromising the collection’s appeal, and the introduction of the sculptural Lozenge Squircle and Lozenge Wave amplifies the collection’s versatility.

Cultural inspiration infuses the WAVE II Collection through the Crest Tassel, drawing from traditional Asian lanterns and adorned with a handcrafted tassel by London-based textile artist, Jessica Light.
This fusion of tradition and innovation adds a layer of romanticism, underscoring Curiousa’s commitment to crafting culturally resonant and captivating pieces.
The textures and colours of the WAVE II Collection evoke the natural allure of weathered glass found along a shoreline. Each glass element is free-blown without moulds, shaped by hand, and enhanced with sand-blasting to create a delightful interplay of contrasts, textures and semi-opaque surfaces.
Esther Patterson explains, “It’s important the pieces feel alive and even tactile. Even though I’ve designed a certain uniformity – they needed to feel instinctive, sculptural, and free of constraint.”
With a palette of 22 colours, including vibrant pops and soft pastels, the collection is endlessly versatile and a testament to Curiousa’s dedication to materiality, colour and form. Custom-made to order, these lights adapt seamlessly to any space whether individually showcased, paired or hung together for a layered effect, the pendants effortlessly intersect to create suspended interplay.
Each light is meticulously constructed by the Curiousa team in their Derbyshire studio, showcasing a commitment to sustainability and British craftsmanship. Every part of the light is replaceable and refurbishable in-house, ensuring longevity and reducing the environmental impact.
