A stylish bathroom wall light offers a great alternative to an overhead light in a small or larger bathroom. It can create a charming focus, without encroaching on headroom. Bathrooms are a very private space – a kind of shrine to everyday rituals. When it comes to lighting a bathroom, you’ll want plenty of good practical task lighting, but it can also be a place to unwind and relax with a touch of warm ambient lighting – a perfect place for an indulgent soak in the tub. It can also be a space to be brave and striking, maybe by adding a punchy bathroom pendant by the sink or if you have space even a bathroom chandelier beside a bath.
Bathroom light ratings can be confusing. Simple put, IP65 can withstand low pressure jets of water, so a light positioned above a bath will need to be IP65. This is within Zone 1. Zone 2 requires at least IP44 or IP45 which has protection from non-direct splashes of water. See the Zone guide opposite which explains the zonal areas. A light positioned in the green area doesn’t need to be IP-rated. However many electricians prefer using IP rated lights in all areas as an extra safety measure.
